Steven Sarao
Steven Sarao is a playwright, author, and writer of opinion pieces, whose writing spans diverse genres. A BFA graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Sarao also obtained his masters degree from Harvard Kennedy School of Government where he was a Fellow in HKS's Program in Criminal Justice and Management. Sarao has written four plays, two full length works, THE BOYS FROM KINGSBRIDGE, which was premiered at Theater For The New City, in 2025, GAMBLING IN THE GARDEN, which is in development, and ODE TO DADDY, his most recent full length play in development.  He has also written a one act play IM BENEATH THE SNOW.
Sarao concentrates his scholarship on the intersection between sub Saharan Africa, terrorism, and government reform. Sarao is considered a subject matter expert in international and domestic terrorism and is a respected speaker and lecturer on a number of topics including relating to public policy, policing, and world affairs.  Sarao’s writing has been published in the Harvard Kennedy School Review, Harvard Africa Policy Journal, American Police Beat, The Jewish Week, and The Star Ledger.  In addition to his playwrighting, Sarao has an upcoming historical memoir The Dreams of Boys Create Men which speaks to small town policing, media and performative responses to social justice issues. Sarao also has two short films and television pilots in development. Sarao is a member of AEA-SAG-AFTRA, Dramatist’s Guild, TRU, LaMama Umbria International, and The Actor’s Studio Playwright and Directors Unit (PDU) 2025-2026.
